When you
are in charge of a family, it is up to you to keep them healthy. Every decision
a family makes will have your effect on it. If you see that your family
member’s are unfit or lethargic, it is you who can do something about it. Your family health is in your hands and it
is you who can do anything about remedying it. It is a really big
responsibility knowing that as long as your husband and children are under your
care, it is your duty to make sure that they are healthy. This is tricky
business since you can come across as pushy, bossy or naggy when you try to
enforce a change. The trick is to be subtle and not make them realise that they
are doing exactly what you want them to do in the first place.
Making your
children eat their vegetables: Vegetables are an important part of your family health. It is also a known fact
that children hate vegetables (and to an extent, so does your husband) so what
most mothers do is push or nag children to eat vegetables. This only makes them
hate it more and thus becomes counterproductive. One thing you can do is to
jazz up your regular vegetable routine. Add some good cheeses or some special
spices to make you average joe casserole into something special. Another thing
you can do is buy a vegetarian cook book or look up international vegetarian
cuisine with fancy names. Surprise them by saying that you’re cooking something
special. When you pop the lid off your dish and they ask you what it is, just
mention some foreign sounding international dish and hear the resounding oohs
and aahs. They wouldn’t even know they are eating eggplants or broccoli. Your family health is saved!
Getting
your family members to work out: Instead of nagging your children to get off
the couch and get some exercise, why not
join them? You can enrol your children in swimming classes, dance classes or
anything else. Teach your son kick boxing, as long as you don’t encourage him
to street brawl. Go on early morning jogs with your husband if you can make him
do it. My advice would be to play the carrot and the stick routine with him. If
he goes running with you, you’ll treat him to something he likes; maybe watch
the latest die hard movie with him you didn’t want to watch. In the end,
everyone is getting some exercise so your family
health is not compromised.
Bonding
your family members together: An important part of family health is their mental and emotional health. You need to
make sure that everyone is happy and that everyone understands each other. The
best way to get your children to respect you is by having them understand you.
If they don’t respect you in the first place, they won’t want to take any value
or ideals from you. For that to happen, you need to spend some quality time
with everyone. Even though it is difficult sometimes, especially if you are
working as well but there are ways to get everyone to bond. Instead of everyone
eating dinner on their own in front of the television, have them sit down at
the table for a proper meal. Take your children or family members on outings
such as movies or shopping or even hiking, anything that would get them to
understand you and vice versa.
In the end,
it just takes ingenuity to improve your family
health. The important part is never to lose hope or just give up. These
things take time, but with every day you try, their health will improve and
they will be a better person and bond with you more.
